1. What DroneEars is (and is not)

DroneEars is an awareness aid. It is not a safety or security device, gives no guarantee of accuracy or protection, and must never be relied on to protect life or property. Always follow official warnings and your own judgement.

2. Data we process

On your phone only (never leaves the device): live microphone audio for detection (processed in real time, not stored on our servers), device orientation/motion sensors, and — if you grant it — your location, all used only to detect and point toward drones.

Shared with us only if you turn sharing on (opt-in):

• Confirmed-sighting location — the approximate location of a drone the app identified (to map where drones appear).
• Drone sound clip — a short audio segment of the sighting, with human voices removed on your phone before it is sent.
• Technical context — phone model, app version, the detected drone type and confidence, and a random device identifier (see §5). No name, email, phone number, or account.

We do NOT collect: your name, email, contacts, accounts, continuous audio, or human voices. We do not use advertising identifiers and we do not sell data.

3. Why we process it, and our legal basis

To detect drones on your device (necessary to provide the app you requested), and — with your consent — to improve the detection models, especially for new drone types. Consent is optional and can be withdrawn at any time. We apply the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law, and the EU GDPR where it applies.

4. On-device voice removal

Before any audio is shared, DroneEars removes segments containing human speech on your phone. Only drone/ambient sound is transmitted. If voice removal cannot run, no audio is shared.

5. Anonymity

DroneEars has no user accounts. Shared data is tied only to a random device identifier, not to you personally, and we minimise precise location. We aim for the shared data to be effectively anonymous.

6. Sharing & processors

We do not sell or share your data with third parties for their own purposes. Data you choose to share is stored on our behalf by our cloud processor Supabase (hosted in the EU — Frankfurt, Germany) under a data-processing agreement, and transmitted over an authenticated, encrypted channel. Subscription payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card details.

7. Retention

Shared sighting data is kept only as long as needed to improve the models and no longer than 24 months from upload, then deleted or further anonymised. Live microphone audio used for detection is never stored on our servers.

8. Your rights

You can turn sharing off at any time in the app (Privacy & Sharing), and you can request access to or deletion of data linked to your device by emailing [email protected]. Where the data is fully anonymous we may be unable to link it back to you to delete it individually.

9. Security

Uploads are authenticated (per-device key, HMAC-signed) and encrypted in transit. No method is perfectly secure, but we apply industry-standard protections.

10. Children

DroneEars is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11. Regional availability

DroneEars is offered in Gulf countries and is not offered in certain other regions. Where offered, it complies with applicable local law.

12. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be notified in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
